has anybody ever heard of or know anything about cheetah, hobbywing and or ez-run brushless systems. Are they any good. What is the best for the money for a new model xl-5 rustler? I says that it is brushless ready, what more do I need to do? What is the best bang for the buck?

First thing to do is change the gears in the tranny to the VXL versions since the XL-5 stuff will burn up quick.

As for those systems they are ok starter systems but you could also just get the VXL system which would be pretty could for that truck.

Word x2

Door 1: Internals first.
Door 2: If you want cheap simple ESC motor WITH warranty, VXL system is the system to go with

Now if you want whats in door 3, thats a whole new world of oh crap ESCs and Motors.

PS: If you really have to get an EZrun or Hobbywing get a 90A or higher 150A or so. But at that price you are back to VXL price and better off with VXL, since if something goes wrong u can get warranty. If you have the doe for some bling then ask them 2 up there about the crazy setups.
Hint, MMM MMP RS QUARK ... Plat,Neu,Hacker, etc etc

Actually, the new "brushless ready" Traxxas XL5 models already have the metal gears in the transmissions... thus making it "brushless ready". Wink

He does say "new model" in his post so you are probably good on the gears. For the ESC combo what kind of money are you looking to spend because the old saying "you get what you pay for" really applies for R/C electronics, with that said here are some systems that would work good in the Rustler. I would stay away from the stuff you mentioned in your first post because for a little MO CASH you can get something that a company will stand behind.

Look at these.
Castle SC combo 3800KV $120
Castle Sidewinder combo 5700KV $145 now but this one looks like they are about to be $100
VXL Combo 3500KV waterproof $160
Castle MMP 5700KV $196

I can keep going up in price but until you give us an idea of what you wanna spend we can't point you in the right direction.

Keep them ????'s coming we are here to help.

huh, the SC setup is 95 bucks at stormers.

There is always a $1300 brushless setup available if money is no issue.
