| What we are looking for is the 12V/9A. The more amps at 12V the better. 5V and 3.3V does not interest us. This PSU (Power Supply Unit) was pulled out of a pule of sh!tfaced Dell PCs in my Garage. Okay, the 12v cable will be the Yellow wire, thats 12v positive. Most of the black wires are all comon Negative they all come together at one point on the board. Next we have to find the wire that turns this sucka on. aka On/Off Switch wire. This will be the green wire pictured here and the black wire on its left (The one alone) Not the black on the other side. (On some PSU this doesnt matter, on higher end you have ot pick the left one) Lets undress this bich, you could just splice the wires and tap it from there. But I like to solder thicker wires to the board itself. There is the fan assembly. Some fans are constant on. Others are controlled by a Temp sensor. There is the 12v Positive and the Negative Cables. Note how they all bunch up into one spot. Here is the 1 negative wire replacement. This thicker red wire will replace all the yellow wires for the Positive 12v+ This is how it looks like once done. Reassemble pics coming soon, still testing if this is a Temp Controlled fan or Always on fan. | |

| Don't forget that some power supply's also need a load to "turn on". So a 10W resistor needs to be added to the 5V line. | |

| Need advice, got the power supply running. What do I do with the 50 million wires that I don't need? Snip them short and insulate them or de-solder them all off? | |

When I did mine I desoldered all the old small wires and soldered on some "Wet Noodle" wire in it's place. | |

| What do you mean your not getting the Amps your supposed to? Just sticking a meter across the PS leads won't work it needs to be hooked up to something to actually see the amps. Not turning on at all....What did you do? Come on Chris you can tell us....Anyways I brought my PS so you can take a look inside and see if there is something wired up wrong.

| It just went into protection or something, left it unplugged while I slept and now it is fine. Well here's what is happening: The PS is rated for 56 amps. So I turn on the charger and start 3 ports at 5amps total of 15. Then start the fourth port and 3 ports start beeping and saying "Input vol err". If I set the fourth port to 2amps it works just fine. So that seems to me like I'm only getting 17amps off my rails. | |
