PostSubject: Nude shot of V5 MMM   Fri Jul 02, 2010 11:18 pm

I postponed getting a MMM for the longest. Well I really didn't want one as the MMM is a hopped original Mamba Max. Fets on the MMM are all on one side and more copper has been added over the MM. But recently Castle starting to use newer FETs and the controller board got a nice makeover. So now it was worth getting one as I truly see it as an upgrade over my original MM. Wayne hooked me up with the latest Model.

Assembly is much improved over the previous version. I'm not embarrased to show off the internals to fellow Techie Nerds. I decided to bench test the ESC out today with the Castle 1520 Beast of a motor. As the ESC was still apart waiting to get molested and get some additional caps soldered on, I noticed one small detail. 2 FETs weren't heatsinked properly. Check the last pic out. I'm awaiting Castle response on this.

As posted my PedelCast himself:
"the BEC coil is now a sintered metal coil. Nice high saturation -- means higher peak currents in big cars"
"Most of the design changes were to increase production yields -- There isn't any changes that would really be noticeable to the user"
"That's the V5 control board. It looks "cleaner" because we went to smaller components and a more compact, beefier BEC design"

First pic is a V3 which nearly everybody has.

In case you are wondering about the size of the Castle 1520 motor, here are pics of it against standard 540 1/10 scale motors.

I got another ESC today and same crap again. The FETs are not heatsinked properly. My camera is not good enough to show the gap between the heatsink and fets.

Whats up with all this nudity DOODE !
Is this even work save LMAO !!!

-I don't like the PCB circuitry layout.
-They skimped out on the PCB waffle it self !!! Low density circuit board nice and bridle.
-Control wire are soldered awfully chunky close together.
-You said Heat sink don't make proper contact ?

Is that thing suppose to be better ? Or anther Cut down in production cost while hoping software controller will compensate for that ?

The controller board is fine to me. Same as most out there, now just upgraded with smaller parts. Solder part is due to that freakin Lead Free crap. Hard to hand solder that stuff nicely. My issues are mostly with the heatsink. Low quality work right there.
